Here's how to do it through the Calendar app on your iPhone.

1. Open your iPhone's Calendar app.

2. Tap to open the event you want to share.

3. Tap "Edit" in the top right corner of the Event Details page.

4. Tap "Invitees."

You'll share the event through email, rather than a text message, like some other iPhone shareable features. Emma Witman/Business Insider

5. Type out the name of the contact you want to invite. You'll need their email to share the event with them.

6. Tap "Done" in the top right corner once you've added the people you want to share it with.

If you hit "Cancel" rather than "Done," your invites won't be saved and sent. Emma Witman/Business Insider

7. Tap "Edit Event" to go back.

8. Tap "Done" to save and send the invites out.

Launch the Calendar app from the Home screen of your iPhone or iPad once you've enabled and set up Family Sharing. Tap the plus sign in the top right corner to create a new event or tap on an existing one that you'd like to appear on the family calendar.

Why can't I add to a shared iPhone Calendar?

Make sure there's nothing wrong with your internet connection or the internet connections of the people you're trying to invite. If you made changes to the event or shared calendar, refresh your calendars. For shared calendars, make sure your account information is correct in Accounts preferences.
