That works, or you can get a program called Fences that you can use to help organize desktop icons anyway you see fit into specific areas on your desktop. Part of that includes double clicking on the desktop to hide all icons, unless you specify certain icons to stay visible. Pretty cool I think.

I want to hide the icon's TEXT, not the icon itself.
Sorry for sounding like a douche, but are you all illiterate?

Apparently we are XD
Anyway, just read through everything on the front page of a Google search, everything is saying Alt + 255. I know that isn't what you wanted but only way I know of going about it.

Its called desktop fonts not text actually and unnamed icons rearrange themselves whenever you reboot. Only way I see it if you make the text the same colour as your desktop background. But there is a hide and show desktop option next to the start menu normally and another arrow in the tray next too the language bar that shows the desktop as a menu list so you might as well just hide the icons.

ancient topic, but I too would like to hide shortcut's text on the desktop as alt code 255 still adds padding that aligns the icon to the top... I could disable grid but windows is too buggy.
Anyways a desktop that just looks like android

NVIDIA > AMD People told me a 7970 to a 770 would be a side grade but after seeing the difference here I believe a 660 wold have been an upgrade over the 7970 . So much smoother no more dropped frames or stutter.
2600K @ 7.61GHZ say what?
As of October 27 2013 I have had 9 news articles on the homepage at once. For the first time in my life I feel I have accomplished something and am actually happy about it.Quote:

To hide the text labels on your desktop icons, go to HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Bags\1\Desktop in the registry and change FFlags from 1075839524 to 1075970596 (decimal). I would suggest backing up Desktop key before proceeding so you can restore your desktop layout if you decide you don't like it. Terminate Explorer.exe and rerun it via Task Manager for the changes to take effect.

This works until you right-click on the desktop then the value resets
is there a way to not let it reset

Here's one for you.
Use Rainmeter.
Find a suitable launcher skin you like and copy the icon/make your own and there you have it!
