How to Create Spotify Playlist on Desktop

For Desktop users, you can simply create playlist in Spotify using the Create Playlist button.

Step 1. Click the Create Playlist button which is at the side menu.

Step 2. Enter the name of your playlist and other details. Click the Save button.

You can also tap Cmd-N (for Mac) or Ctrl-N (for Windows) on your keyboard to build a Spotify playlist.

To add or remove songs from the playlist: You can edit your playlist. When you want to add new songs to the playlist, right-click the song you want to add, choose the Add to Playlist button, and select your playlist. A simple alternative is dragging this song to the playlist. When you want to remove a song from your playlist, right-click the song, choose Remove from this Playlist.

To delete playlist: It is pretty easy to delete a playlist from Spotify. Just right-click the playlist and choose the Delete button.

How to Make a Playlist on Spotify on Mobile Devices

If you do not have a computer on hand, don’t worry, Spotify enables you to create Spotify playlists with your smartphone or tablet. Check the guide below to learn how to create Spotify playlists on mobile.

Create playlist in Spotify

Step 1. Open the Spotify app and go to the Your Library.

Step 2. Choose the Playlists tab and tap the Create Playlist button.

Step 3. Name this playlist and tap Create.

To add or remove songs from the playlist: You need to add new songs to your empty playlist, tap the ADD SONGS to get suggestions from Spotify. When you add songs to playlists later, you can tap the Triple-Dot button next to the name of a song. Then choose to Add to Playlist, and select your playlist. When you want to remove a song from your playlist, tap the Triple-Dot button, and choose Remove from this Playlist.

To delete playlist: It is pretty easy to delete a playlist from Spotify on mobile. Just tap the Triple-Dot button which is under its name and choose the Delete Playlist button. Tap the Delete button again to confirm your action.

How to Create Playlist in Spotify with Spotify Playlist Maker

You may lack some inspiration for the songs in your playlist. Spotify offers suggestions for you. Click the Recommended Songs locating at the bottom of each playlist you create. Spotify will suggest songs according to the songs that you added to this playlist.

On mobile

Step 1. Tap the Triple-Dot button of this playlist.

Step 2. Tap Edit and Change Image. Select an image and tap Save.

On desktop or web player

Step 1. Click the image of your playlist.

Step 2. Select an image for your playlist and click Save.

How to Download Spotify Playlist without Premium

You can download a playlist by tapping the Download toggle on this playlist page. But that needs a Spotify Premium subscription. If you are a free user, you can follow the method to download Spotify playlists without Premium.

The method is to use a third-party Spotify downloader. Here I suggest ViWizard Spotify Playlist Downloader. This Spotify playlist downloader can download any Spotify song, playlist, album to MP3, AAC, FLAC, WAV, and more plain audio formats. Downloading Spotify playlist with ViWizard is workable for both Spotify Premium and free users. If you have ever tried Spotify on mobile, you’ll probably know that free users aren’t allowed to stream on-demand music; this feature is only limited to Premium subscribers. Using the mobile app, Spotify Free users may search for music, create playlists or save (bookmark) songs and albums to “Your Music” section, but they cannot select a particular song and listen to it. Instead, they can only shuffle through a particular artist, album or playlist using the Shuffle Play button. Even if you try to shuffle a playlist containing only one song, Spotify will usually play another song related to it.

But while exploring Spotify on mobile today, we found a workaround that makes on-demand streaming possible even without a Premium account. Here is what we did to play a particular song (on-demand) on Spotify using the iPhone and Android app.

Download and install the Spotify app on iPhone or Android.
Open Spotify and search the song that you want to play.
Select a result from the Top Results, Artists or Albums section. This will take you to the respective album or artist page.
Save your searched song by swiping it to the left or selecting Save from the song options.
Tap on the Shuffle Play button to play a random song from the list of available songs.
Go to Menu >> Your Music. The artist or album of your selected song should be available under Recently Played list . Open it to access the song list. This list should only contain the saved song(s) of the corresponding album or artist.
Now tap on Shuffle Play. If the list contains only your selected song, it should now begin playing.

“Your Music” view on Spotify shows all the Songs and Albums that you have bookmarked using the Save option. If you open any artist or album from the Recently Played list (under Your Music), usually it will take you to the respective page with the complete list of items (songs, albums, playlists, etc.). But if a recently played album or artist includes any of your saved songs, the corresponding page will only display your saved items. Tapping on Shuffle Play will now randomly play songs from your respective saved items.

To play a particular song from a recently played album or artist, you have to remove all other saved items that might be present on that list. Since the list only contains one song now, tapping on Shuffle Play will play that particular song. However, the same trick won’t be applicable for individual albums or playlists.

The aforementioned workaround may even work for Windows Phone devices, though in our tests, we were not able to get any reliable results. You can try this on your Windows Phone and let us know if it works.

This workaround has been tested using the latest version of Spotify app for iOS and Android on 21 February, 2015. If it’s a bug, Spotify may fix it soon.
