Cant sign into Pokémon GO with trainer club?

According to an article on Polygon, the 1.0.1 update to Pokemon Go for iOS is to blame for locking people out of their Trainer Club accounts:

Pokémon Go is reportedly locking users out of their Pokémon Trainer Club accounts, following an update for iOS users. According to members of Reddit, along with those of us at Polygon, the latest version of the game is locking out players who use their Trainer Club logins to access the game.

To fix your issue, you should update Pokemon Go to version 1.0.2:

Update: Niantic Labs has released an update for Pokémon Go on iOS that fixes the Trainer Club login issue. Version 1.0.2 is now available to download and will allow players with Trainer Club accounts to log back into their accounts.

Canadian player here; Since the app launched in Canada I've been unable to start as I'm aiming to use my Pokemon Trainer Club Account rather than a Google Account. Any other users in Canada experiencing this issue? I've not been able to log in to the website either, and I confirmed my account information to be correct (even reset my password, still no avail in login attempts).

Lots of users have problems with PTC. I'd honestly advice to just make an account with gmail. Able they also have issues, it's nothing as bad as PTC.

Yep, I'm having the exact same issues (also Canadian). At first, I thought I just forgot my password. I ended up resetting my password twice, and it still failed to recognize my password. I also cannot login to that account on the Pokemon website.

People have been saying that logging in through the trainer club account will provide additional benefits in the future, such as codes and other extras. Apparently, you can't keep one account and switch interchangeably from a google login to a trainer club login - can anyone confirm this? If so, I thought there would be little point in progressing with a google account if the trainer club account would supposedly receive extra bonuses.

But if it consistently is causing login problems, I may have no choice but to make an account via a google sign-in.

Same thing here, also Canadian. Have tried sporadically yesterday afternoon, evening and today. I can't log into PTC even after password resets, either in the app or on the website. I will not start this game without my PTC, so as far as I'm concerned, the game still isn't out in Canada.

Despite its release in most regions of the world and breaking download records in Apple's App Store, every single "Pokemon Go" player shares exactly one thing in common with one another — perpetually asking, sometimes multiple times a day: "Why can't I log into 'Pokemon Go'?" Trainer Club members seem to have it the worst as the Pokemon Trainer Club — known as the PTC by power players — seems to always have server and login issues at all hours of the day. Unfortunately for players, the Pokemon Trainer Club is only one of two possible login options for players, the other requiring a Google login.

The main reason for "Pokemon Go" login problems, no matter which login method you're using? Server issues. Basically, it all boils down to the fact that there can be as many as 25 million daily active users playing "Pokemon Go," according to a report from Survey Monkey. But the Pokemon Trainer Club is independent of Niantic, the company behind "Pokemon Go" — and yet, there have been issues with Trainer Club accounts since day one of "Pokemon Go's" release. The Pokemon Trainer's Club is hosted at and managed by The Pokemon Company at Pokemon.com — a separate subsidiary that manages the Pokemon brand, imagery, and licensing.

According to Pokemon.com, the servers are simply overwhelmed by the number of people trying to use its Pokemon Trainer Club accounts, whether creating new accounts to access their existing accounts. The Pokemon Company's statement continues:

Our team is hard at work improving support for these features. Until the work is complete, for a brief time, we'll be limiting the amount of access to these features.

Within days of the launch of "Pokemon Go," some interested players balked at using their Google accounts to log into the game, as reports surfaced that granting Google account access to play "Pokemon Go" also allowed the app to read emails in your Gmail account. The Google account access concern with "Pokemon Go" was actually proven to be a misunderstanding of how "Pokemon Go" uses Google's OAuth (authentication protocol). Still, many players opted to either create a Pokemon Trainer Club account, or die-hard Pokemon fans just used their existing PTC accounts. But Pokemon Trainer Club account holders have been plagued with login issues since launch:

Many of those Pokemon Trainer Club players have deeply regretted that choice to stick with PTC over Google, as account access is either highly unstable or simply not working at all:

So, what can Pokemon Trainer Club account holders do while waiting — and waiting, and waiting — to play "Pokemon Go"? Unfortunately, not much. As speculation mounts that "Pokemon Go" may have already reached its peak, the continued gameplay shut-out of Pokemon Trainer Club members is certainly not helping the game's popularity.

For most "Pokemon Go" players, "to catch them is my real test" — and one guy has allegedly caught all the Pokemon — but for Pokemon Trainer Club players, the real test is just getting to even play the game at all.

You may receive “failed to log in” or “unable to authenticate” error messages if our servers are experiencing a temporary issue or your network connectivity is poor. Check to ensure your mobile device has a strong network connection, or wait a short while, then try logging in again.

Why can't I sign into Pokémon GO with Google anymore?

You may be able to resolve login issues by refreshing Google's connection to Pokémon GO. Your game progress will not be lost by performing these steps. Visit the Google connected apps settings page and select Pokémon GO from the list of connected apps.
