Apa maksud dari marine epoxy

Penamaan jenis cat atau jenis coating biasanya tergantung kandungan resinnya. Dinamakan cat lantai epoxy misalnya, karena cat tersebut mengandung resin bernama epoxy. Resin merupakan salah satu komponen cat yang fungsinya sebagai binder, untuk pengikat pigment dan memberikan daya lekat pada permukaan yang akan dicat.

Berikut ini adalah beberapa resin yang terdapat dalam cat atau coating berikut penjelasan sifat-sifatnya.

1. Alkyd

Kelebihan

• Cat anti karat / daya tahan korosi baik
• Perawatan mudah
• Aplikasi mudah
• Adhesi utk kayu atau metal cukup
• Ekonomis

Kekurangan

• Ketahanan cuaca: sedang
• Ketahanan kimia: kurang

Aplikasi
Konstruksi umum dan konstruksi industri yang tidak terlau korosif, marine environment yang tidak terlalu korosif, permukaan kayu.

2. Epoxy

Kelebihan

• Ketahanan karat: baik
• Ketahanan kimia: baik
• Ketahanan pelarut organik: baik
• Adhesi terhadap metal: baik

Kekurangan

• Preparasi permukaan harus baik
• Mudah chalking by matahari
• 2 komponen, pencampuran harus homogen

Aplikasi
Konstruksi umum, marine environment yang sangat korosif (dinding kapal, platform, konstruksi lepas pantai), konstruksi yang terendam air laut, lingkungan kimia (uap asam / bahan organik), pipe & tank lining.

3. Bituminous Paint

Kelebihan

Kekurangan

• Mudah crack (patah / getas)
• Sagging (luntur) di udara panas
• Tidak tahan pelarut
• Warna hanya hitam

Aplikasi
Melindungi pipa atau kontruksi di lingkungan kelautan atau industri, perumahan.

Note: Menggunakan senyawa-senyawa asphalten sebagai resin

4. Chlorinated Rubber

Kelebihan

• Tahan air dan kimia
• Adhesi baik
• Sering digunakan sebagai intercoat / tiecoat
• Cepat kering
• Bisa kering pada < 0 oC

Kekurangan

• Tidak tahan solvent
• Tidak tahan temperatur tinggi ( > 65 oC ) 
• Tidak ramah lingkungan, mengandung chlorine dan emisi solvent tinggi

Aplikasi
Sebagai intermediate coat (tiecoat), cat swimming pool.

Note: Termasuk non convertible coating, terbuat dari campuran rubber resin dan chlorine.

5. Vinyl

Kelebihan

• Ketahanan air / cuaca: superior
• Lebih aman dari chlorinated rubber
• Bisa untuk bak air minum

Kekurangan

• Surface preparation harus baik
• Tidak tahan panas (>60 oC )
• Tidak tahan solvent

Aplikasi
Resin cat antifouling, cat kapal, cat swimming pool, marine paint, eksterior dan immersion.

Note: Termasuk non convertible coating, terbuat dari vinyl chloride dan vinyl acetate.

6. Acrylic

Kelebihan

• Colour retention sangat baik
• Tahan terhadap cahaya UV
• Gloss

Kekurangan: Tidak tahan alkohol

Aplikasi
Sebagai top coat untuk kendaraan bermotor, resin antifouling coating.

Note: Dibuat dari turunan acrylic dan methacrylic acid

7. Polyurethane

Kelebihan

• Ketahanan kimia / solven: baik
• Gloss & colour rentension baik sekali
• Tidak chalking, sering untuk top coat dari epoxy

Kekurangan

• Penangananya cukup sulit
• Tidak toleran terhadap uap air
• Lebih mahal dari epoxy
• 2 komponen, harus dicampur baik
• Toxic

Aplikasi
Top coat untuk epoxy, banyak digunakan untuk cat automotive

Note: Terbuat dari reaksi isosianat dengan senyawa senyawa hidroksil seperti air, epoxy, acrylic atau polyester .

8. Silicone

Kelebihan

• Cat tahan panas / tahan temperatur tinggi
• Silicone alkyd (90-150 oC )
• Pure silicone (540-640 oC )

Kekurangan: Mahal

Aplikasi
Eksterior cerobong industri, pelindung (dari korosi) untuk permukaan metal yang betemperatur tinggi.

Note: Terdiri atas 2 macam, pure silicone resin dan silicone modified alkyd resin.
